Resonance 感应 (2016)
This series explores how Chinese youth are weaving together tradition and contemporary life in the ancient city of Xi’an. It was commissioned by the OCAT museum.
Music and nature are central to Xi’an’s rich culture. To explore this, Liz spent time at the unique Shanxi Yishu Zhiye Xueyuan (山西艺术职业学院), famed for teaching the ‘authentic’ Qing Opera style of performance.
Photographing fans at Strawberry Music Festival of Rock led her to discov-er "Return to Zero", a self-sustainable ecological community established in and around centu-ries-old cave houses. This work is a fusion of old and new both in its subject and medium. The images were made using an old Seagull camera made in China and expired film bought in the online shop Taobao.
